La Pierre Winery in Zillah, WA — A Cozy Winter Escape With Spectacular Valley Views

If you’re exploring wineries near Yakima and want something with a little charm, a little adventure, and a lot of stunning views, then add La Pierre Winery in Zillah, Washington to your must-visit list. It’s a bit of a drive from Yakima—just far enough to feel like you’re escaping—but not too far into the upper Yakima River Valley to make it inconvenient. And trust me, the views alone are worth every mile.
A Winery on a Hill… With One Funny Little Caveat

La Pierre sits perched on a hill surrounded by family-owned orchards, giving it that quintessential agricultural, small-town Washington vibe. When you walk up to the tasting room, you’re greeted with sweeping views of rolling orchards, vineyards, and the mountains layered in the distance.
But full honesty here: you will notice the dairy farm at the base of the hill. And depending on the wind, you might really notice it.
On my December visit, the breeze was blowing the “wrong” direction and let’s just say—there was a presence. Our friendly tasting room attendant laughed as he explained that only about five days out of the entire year does the wind carry that dairy aroma uphill. The other 360 days? Nothing but pristine fresh valley air and panoramic beauty.
The Tasting Room: Small, Modern & Beautifully Designed

Inside, the tasting room is small to medium sized with modern, warm decor. The floor-to-ceiling windows are the star—they frame the western mountains so beautifully that you almost forget you’re indoors. In the evening, the sunsets must be incredible.
The Outdoor Snow Globes — A Winter Must
On this visit, my friends and I reserved one of their outdoor “Snow Globes,” and it was honestly the highlight of the experience. These clear igloo-style domes are sturdy, insulated, and incredibly cozy. Inside you’ll find:
- A small electric fireplace
- Comfy outdoor lounge seating
- Extra blankets for snuggling
- The perfect warm-but-outdoors feel for winter wine tasting
It felt magical—like a private winter hideaway just for our group.
The Wine: Smooth, Balanced & Very Sip-Able
I ordered their tasting flight, which included:
- Rosé
- Syrah
- Cabernet Sauvignon
All three were solid, but the Cab was my clear favorite—so much so that our group ordered a bottle to share.
We also tried their Dolcetto blend, featuring Cabernet, Merlot, and the Italian grape Dolcetto. And wow… it was smooth, balanced, and the kind of wine that makes you say, “We’re definitely getting that next time.”
Why I’ll Be Back
Even though we visited in December, I cannot wait to return:
❄️ In winter — when the valley is snow-dusted and the globes feel extra magical
☀️ In summer — to enjoy their large patio overlooking the orchards
La Pierre Winery is the perfect blend of cozy, scenic, and unexpected. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Zillah wine country, this is one spot you don’t want to miss.
