If you ever find yourself in Yakima and are craving a peaceful place to sip delicious wine while soaking up gorgeous views, let me point you straight to Owen Roe Winery—a true hidden gem tucked away just five minutes from town.

Nestled just past “the Gap” where the Yakima River flows into the Lower Valley, Owen Roe feels like you’ve stumbled upon a secret. Although it’s just a short drive from town, the winery is beautifully set back from the hum of I-82. The moment you pull into the gravel lot and walk toward the open tasting room door, the hustle and bustle fade away, replaced with the sounds of laughter, clinking glasses, and the occasional breeze rustling through the lavender.

My friend and I recently made a spontaneous stop here and just so happened to arrive during their Wine Club Spring Release event. The place was buzzing with happy wine club members, but it still maintained its signature laid-back charm. There’s a reason it’s one of my go-to spots when I want to catch up with friends over a glass (or bottle!) of wine.

My personal favorite? Wise Guy—a crisp, smooth Sauvignon Blanc that somehow manages to be both refreshing and flavorful. At only $12, it’s basically a steal for winery wine, and I always leave with a bottle (or three) to bring home.

But the real magic of Owen Roe isn’t just in the wine—it’s in the setting. The property is surrounded by vineyards and orchards nestled in a small gully with a jaw-dropping view of Mount Adams in the distance. The tasting lawn is scattered with seating areas perfect for lounging, chatting, and lingering through sunny afternoons. Lavender plants dot the landscape, adding to the relaxed, enchanting vibe.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through the Yakima Valley, Owen Roe Winery is one of those places that makes you want to stay awhile. It’s a breath of fresh air, a place to connect, unwind, and sip something truly special.
